Linear Park & Hewitt Sawmill Park at Palm Coast

SAI provided civil engineering services for the design and permitting of the 135-acre Linear Park along US-Highway 1 (US-1). This project included 7.5 miles of bicycle / pedestrian path that runs parallel to the highway. Wooden bridges were used at wetland crossings to minimize direct and secondary impacts to wetlands. The project also included design of 11 master lift stations and over 14 miles of underground utilities, including potable water, sanitary force main, and reuse water. Construction of these utilities required 25 directional bores and 3 jack & bores under US-1. The linear park parallels both sides of US-1 and required maintaining drainage capacity from the highway. SAI modeled the area and coordinated with FDOT to permit the project.

SAI also designed and permitted Hewitt Sawmill Park, which was designed as part of the preservation of a historically significant sawmill. The parking area and meandering walking trail were designed and constructed so as to avoid floodplain impacts and protect environmentally sensitive areas with minimal wetland impacts. Both the path and parking areas were constructed of crushed shell to meet runoff volume requirements.

SAI was selected as the CDD Engineer and subsequently served as resident project representative during construction of all civil infrastructure.
